Stonefly has blended wide-ranging Italian shoe designs, innovative footwear research capabilities, experience and tradition into not only the Stonefly shoe design but also the shoe manufacture of its products. From its earliest days, the company has had as its goal the design and production of fashion footwear for both urban and leisure use.

From its original conception Stonefly has striven to continually push the boundaries of what can be considered new technology. Stonefly re-invest 5% of turnover each year into its research and development programme. Within the company this department is known as the "Design Lab".
The Design Lab works in close partnership with the Human Bio-mechanics department at the University of Pavia to study the mechanics of movement that happen when the human body walks
